Well, just as we thought life was getting back to relatively normal, Queenslanders were hit with another curveball on Monday. It’s a fresh reminder of how quickly circumstances can change and how adaptable we need to be these days, not just in business but in all aspects of our lives.
In times of uncertainty, it’s important we remember to be kind and understanding to others around us. Compassion is one of our greatest assets and we should exercise it as frequently as possible. We at the CBWC will always follow the directives of the Queensland Government and Queensland Health and we put our trust in those who’s knowledge and expertise far outweigh ours!
Whilst we may be back to uncertain times, the CBWC is still dedicated to supporting local businesses through our regular networking events, and creating connections through platforms such as our members only Facebook group. We also have the CBWC Businesswoman of the Year Awards just around the corner, and we are once again reminded of the calibre of successful businesswomen in Cairns and the Far North.
After having to postpone the event in 2020, we are thrilled to have received over 110 nominations to go ahead with this year’s event!

Congratulations to local businesswoman Laurie Pritchard of Small World Journeys for taking out the Tourism category in the Small Business Champion Awards!
Small World Journeys runs tours from 4-14 days for domestic and international school groups that sync with curriculum to meet class academic, cultural and sustainability goals.
Activities on these trips include community engagement and contribution activities such as a mangrove education and clean up project, coral bleaching surveys at The Great Barrier Reef, and creating comfort packs for Cairns’ homeless and needy, in addition to “traditional” tourist activities such as snorkelling, visiting farms and exploring the rainforest. It is also company policy to include an activity with an Aboriginal guide in every tour offered to support Traditional Owners and promote pride in culture.
